sigh

From the NY Times, 'With all but three of the cardinal electors appointed by Pope John Paul II, nearly all his potential successors fit his mold of doctrinal conservatism on issues like abortion and euthanasia, birth control, homosexuality and the ordination of women.'

Phew. That was close. And here I was worried the Church might shed a few of its tendencies towards its 'cretinous medieval line of thinking' (courtesy The London News Review.

Thank God (haha) we can usher in the new with a few decisive steps backwards for the poor, women, and gays. That's only, what, 55% of the world population (50% women, + 5% gay (10% divided by 2 as women straight and gay have already been counted) + the poor (?Probably something upwards of 90%, if not 95%, but I'll err on the side of favouring the wealthy and put it way too low at 85%. Gotta cut out women again, as well) weighing in at a wholly randomly estimate of 42.5%.

So. 97.5% of the planet sure has a lot to look forward to, huh?
